This post takes us not on another U.S. adventure, but on an adventure to the wonderful isle of Great Britain. Our time there flew by, leaving us with plenty of blog post-worthy moments, so I thought I’d add a new twist to this post as you’ll shortly see below.
While in England, we fell even more in love with Julia Donaldson—the children’s author behind The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, and The Gruffalo’s Child. Her playful rhymes snuck (or should I say, stuck) in our heads and bedtime stories, so now we’re sprinkling a bit of her magic into this post. Get ready to read along in rhyme, as we share our England time! *Pause for eye roll*
Our England adventure began with a flight,
“Was it smooth?” we were asked, “Did it go alright?”
A night in the sky, as short as could be,
Tilly slept well, full of excitement and glee.
Maggie, though, needed some coaxing to rest,
But we landed safe, our spirits were blessed.
Tilly ran fast, her heart full of cheer,
To greet her dear Omie and Grandad so near.
The British storms had passed, and we brought the sun,
Hours outdoors meant endless fun!
Asleep in the car, the girls woke in surprise,
To new toys and Micah the cat, with curious eyes.
Meeting their cousins for the very first time,
Was heartwarming, joyful, and simply sublime.
They played and they laughed, forming a bond,
A friendship so deep, it will last lifelong.
A Paw Patrol castle was bouncy and bright,
For a cousins first birthday, it was pure delight.
Tilly now expecting castles from centuries long past,
To bounce like this one, if they want to last
In Norwich we gathered, family so dear,
To celebrate love, with joy and cheer.
Aunt Andrea, a princess, so graceful and sweet,
Tilly and Maggie, in beautiful dresses complete.
Flower girls twirling, they couldn’t be prouder,
Dancing all night, with music much louder.
Tilly first on the floor, she twirled and spun,
Dragging her to bed? That was no fun!
But as all good tales have a twist or two,
A small bug arrived, turning stomachs blue.
Poor Will and Maggie were the first to fall,
So plans were adjusted to care for them all.
A few days of rest and the bug went away,
So off to Cheltenham feeling okay.
Alice took time with a friend so dear,
To help her get married and spread some cheer.
While Omie and the girls explored with delight,
Tasting apple crumble and food just right.
After time with dear friends, we were off once more,
Back to Cheltenham’s streets where we’d been before.
Maggie and Tilly were thrilled with a cheer,
As Muma and Dadda returned from the “big day” near
We spent our days with Tony and E*,
Exploring Gloucestershire, happy and free.
A place for the future, where we might stay,
Dreams of a move growing brighter each day.
With farewells said, we journeyed ahead,
To Berkhamsted’s warmth, where more family time led.
Great Nanny and Grandad came by for a spell,
Though the small bug returned, not feeling too well.
Yet time together was still quite a treat,
Sharing love and laughter, so warm and sweet.
Cousins ran wild in the garden to play,
While Alice enjoyed all the food that made her day.
She made sure to savour every last bite,
Of dishes she’d miss while in the U.S. life.
The last few days were filled with joy and cheer,
Until it was time to leave from here.
With hugs and waves and a sad fond goodbye,
We boarded the plane and took to the sky.
With adventures ahead and tales yet to weave,
We’ll cherish each moment, in all we believe.
Thank you to all we visited and met,
For all the love and laughter, we will not forget!
(*Sorry Erica, it was hard to get it to rhyme!)
This was a fun post to write, and a bit of a challenge! As I write this post back in our lovely trailer, welcomed by Gracie the dog’s wagging tail, I hope the jet lag is kind to us as we head northeast to catch the start of the change of the beautiful colours of autumn leaves. Our plan is to follow these lovely hues southward for the rest of the year, so get ready for lots of very autumnal pictures! xx
