This week, we finally made it to Minneapolis!! A big milestone in our trip as it was a spot we needed to be at by a specific date, we wouldn’t want to miss Metallica would we! 🤘🤘🤘
Our home for the week was at a Veterans campground, a large family style campground where you instantly felt safe and accepted, the campground had a beautiful lake perfect for swimming, boating, and fishing and we had a wonderful play park for the girls less than 20 steps away from the trailer. Tilly and Maggie had a wonderful time playing in the park every night while the adults relaxed by the campfire, soaking up the sound of their giggles and excitement as they made new friends and learned fun new games. Mornings were filled with trips to the lakes beach to build sandcastles and dip our toes in the water before work.
Being so close to Minneapolis and St. Paul meant we could dive into all the fun activities the Twin Cities had to offer. Alice discovered just why they’re called the twin cities – Minneapolis and St. Paul border each other, and share many of the same political, educational, and cultural institutions – and are therefore considered to be “twins”. And the stunning St. Paul’s Cathedral and City Hall surprised us with their beauty and grandeur! Will and the girls explored a huge children’s museum that left Tilly and Maggie sleeping like angels that night. Whilst, Alice had a slightly nerve-wracking experience at a local laundromat in a not-so-great part of town. Thank goodness for Uber!
This week was also about family reunions. Uncle B came to stay, and we got to reconnect with cousins, aunts, uncles, and great aunts and uncles from both the Jaeb and Hagen clans. It was heartwarming to see everyone, especially those who hadn’t seen each other since childhood.
We learned about the local area and discovered a true gem: Cup and Cone! This local hotspot is famous for its 25-cent ice creams (a bit more now, but still a bargain!). The ice cream was delicious and the portions sizes were amazing, the kids’ cups were big enough for an adult to enjoy! Lets just say a few evening trips were made to this spot.
Will and Uncle B enjoyed two very polar experiences, that of a Metallica concert and the other fishing in the serene lake at sunrise. One of which allowed us to try cooking fresh fish over a morning campfire. The girls and Alice also got to try their hand at fishing as we took a Pontoon boat out to explore the lake, poor Gracie dog really not enjoying that experience.
Our time with Uncle B was a whirlwind, and just like that, it was time to say goodbye. We packed up our things and had one last play at the play park before we headed on our way East.
See you soon!
